Wald Front Basket - Large

The Wald wire basket is a staple. We guarantee you've seen some around town, wherever you are in North America. These are affordable, versatile and reliable. Made in a small Kentucky town with a long history of wrought-iron manufacture, we hope these baskets never change.

The "139" is the default big boy, and fits 22.2/25.4mm handlebars (old-school, not MTB or road oversized bars). The hardware is simplified for affordability, for best fit you might need to modify the legs. Here's how: cut them to length, flatten the new end in a vise, file off the nasty edges, and drill a new hole the appropriate size for your fittings. Not that tricky but you gotta have the tools!

The "1392" is adjustable to many size and types of bike, with compatibility for bars 22.2mm to 31.8mm, and sliding legs. For many cases this is much easier and faster to set up, but it's a little heavier 'cause of all the extra hardware.

The "42" series has no fitting hardware whatsoever! It's a newer set of products for people strapping baskets to their front racks, for much more carrying capacity. Zip ties or 20" Voile straps are good for attaching them.

The half-height no-hardware 42SHC is the most minimalistic-but-still-useful basket you'll find anywhere.

• 139/42 Baskets
  • Wider than the 137, slightly deeper. Good if you have lots of room at the front and you want to carry big stuff. At its best when strapped to a wide platform, porteur style.
  • 18″ side to side x 13″ front to back and 6″ deep – the basket tapers to 15 3/4″ x 10 1/2″ at the bottom.
  • Half-height is 3" deep
  • 139 is 2.6lbs (1.2kg) with fittings.
• Tall 135 Basket
  • Very deep basket, useful with hybrid handlebars and stem, or strapped to the top of a rear rack.
  • 14 1/2″ side to side x 9 1/2″ front to back and 9″ deep. Basket tapers to 12 1/4″ x 7″.
  • 3lbs (1,4kg) with fittings.

FYI, baskets from Wald develop a patina of beausage over time. The finish will eventually wear and some rusty spots will appear where bits of wire cross each other. The basket will also deform a bit as it lives a life out in the world due to bumps and falls. None of these weaken the basket very quickly, you can keep using it and appreciate the life it's shared with you.
